Orchestra

The Orquestra Barroca Catalana was founded in 1993 with the aim of disseminating and recuperating 17th and 18th century repertoires. Its members, mostly from Catalonia, are performers specialised in historical interpretation.

The repertoire performed, both instrumental and operatic and religious, is broad. From the repertoire performed, the mass Alma Redemptoris Mater and the concert for bassoon by Anselm Viola, the Stabat Mater and Salve Regina by Josep and Manuel Pla, the Magnificat, St John Passion and St Matthew Passion by Johan Sebastian Bach, Il vespro de la Beata Virgine by Claudio Monteverdi, the Te Deum by M.A. Charpentier, the Messiah by Georg Friedrich Handel, the Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Nelson Mass by Franz Joseph Haydn and the Concert for violin in D minor by Felix Mendelssohn stand out.

The Orquestra Barroca Catalana has also worked in the recuperation of music, thus making works by Domènec Terradellas, Francesc Valls, Ferran Sor, Vicenç Martin i Soler, Charles Desmazures, Alessandro Scarlatti, Angelo Ragazzi, Emanuele D’Astorga i Manuel and Josep Pla. World renowned conductors such as Hiro Kurosaki, Olivia Centurioni, Paul Dombrecht, Barry Sargent, Charles Limouse, Eva Kollar, Simon Carrington, Helmut Breuer, Manuel Valdivieso, Jordi Casas and Josep Vila i Casañas, among others, have worked with it. Furthermore, soloists such as Josep Borràs, Raquel Andueza, Marta Infante, Ruth Rosique, Xavier Sabata, Jordi Domènech, Marta Matheu, Marta Almajano, Pau Bordas, David Menendez, Enric Martinez Castignani, Robert Expert, Michael Chance, Lluís Vilamajó, Marisa Martins i Núria Rial.

The orchestra has recorded and released Josep and Manuel Pla, whole religious music for soloist voice amb orchestra. Enderrock classic reward 2011.
