ESTEVE NABONA

Born in 1968, he is part of a distinguished generation of choral conductors who received training from renowned masters such as Manuel Cabero, Pierre Cao, Gaby Baltès, and Joan Company.

After a long career —spanning more than 20 years— as a choral conductor and pedagogue at the Orfeó Català Foundation-Palau de la Música, leading the Cor Jove and the Escola Coral of the Orfeó Català, he currently conducts the Cor de Cambra Femení Scherzo and a new phase of the Ensemble Vocal Cambra 16, a choir he founded in 1999. Additionally, as a guest conductor, he collaborates with various choirs and participatory projects, such as the Associació Messies Participatiu de Barcelona.

In 2025, he has been invited, for the second time, by the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (Santiago de Chile) to teach a course on choral conducting and repertoire. At the same time, he will direct the Bach Santiago 49 concert, featuring soloists, a chamber choir, and a baroque orchestra from the same university.

Beyond purely musical projects, he has initiated a stable collaboration with several wineries to organize activities that combine oenology with music. Noteworthy is his regular collaboration with the Kripta winery and the creation of the Programa Musical 10x10 series, which includes musical pairings, tavern singing workshops, musical performances with gastronomic tastings, and more.

Educated at the Conservatori Municipal de Música de Barcelona, where he earned a degree in French horn under the tutelage of Vicent Aguilar, he also took lessons from masters such as Thomas Indermühle, Wolfgang Mayer, Paul van Zelm, and Frantisek Supin.

Between 1986 and 2003, he performed with the country’s leading orchestras, such as the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, the Orquestra Simfònica del Gran Teatre del Liceu, and the Simfònica del Vallès, while simultaneously directing the Cor de Cambra Ars Subtilior and the Cor Albada of the Agrupació Cor Madrigal.

In 2003, he joined the Palau de la Música Catalana as assistant conductor of the Cor de Cambra of the Palau de la Música Catalana and later became the principal conductor of the Cor Jove del Orfeó Català (2003-2022). During this period, he combined this role with conducting the Cor de Cambra of the Universitat Ramon Llull (2006-2012) and the Cor Jove dels Països Catalans (2010-2015). In 2009, he coordinated a choral project involving teachers and conductors from the Escola Coral of the Orfeó Català in Mumbai (India), invited by a prestigious orchestra conductor. This project aimed to create a network of children's choirs in the schools of the Indian metropolis.

From 2010 to 2022, he served as the director of the Escola Coral of the Orfeó Català and the artistic director of Palau Vincles – Clavé XXI, a social project by the Orfeó Català Foundation - Palau de la Música Catalana, which brings choral singing to organizations and schools in socially vulnerable areas.

As a conductor, he has performed concerts in Catalonia and Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic. He has also led various choral workshops and masterclasses in different countries.

In choral and orchestral productions, he has conducted ensembles such as the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès, the Orquestra de Cambra Terrassa 48, the Orquestra Joves Intèrprets dels Països Catalans, the Orquestra Nacional Clàssica d'Andorra, the Orquestra Barroca Catalana, the Ensemble Barroc Méridien, the Orquestra Barroca Ars Musicae, and the Orquestra Simfònica Camera Musicae.
